Here’s why Pals Curcumin Bio-52x is Superior to Other Curcumin Bio-52x Products

High-Absorption Curcumin
for Real, Lasting Benefits

Our motto is, "It's all about absorption."

Curcumin, a natural medicine used for thousands of years for many different ailments, has one major downside: "low bioavailability." This means that only a small amount of curcuminoids actually absorb into the body and enter the proper cells. That's why you often hear about people taking supplements that did nothing for them, thanks to the lack of absorption.

What sets Pals Curcumin apart is its exceptional absorption rate, making it one of the most effective curcumin supplements on the market. Compared to the standard 95% curcuminoid, Pals Curcumin surpasses its bioavailability (absorption) by 39x to 52x, depending on whether you measure free or total curcuminoids.

Furthermore, unlike the typical powder form, Pals Curcumin is formulated in liquid-filled vegan capsules that are shown to dissolve more rapidly into cells, providing a higher potency and absorption rate, which brings you real healthy results.

Countless studies have demonstrated the numerous benefits of Turmeric, but the key to unlocking these benefits lies in high absorption. With Pals's highly bioavailable Curcumin, you can be confident that you're getting the most out of your turmeric supplementation.

A closer look at Curcumin

Curcuminoids are natural polyphenol compounds derived from turmeric, a spice derived from the rhizomes of the plant Curcuma longa, which is the yellow-orange colored cousin of ginger. Commonly consumed in Asian countries among others, turmeric/curcumin has been used for medicinal purposes for centuries and it exhibits anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and neurotrophic activity. It therefore holds promise as a therapeutic agent for several disorders.

Curcumin has received worldwide attention for its multiple health benefits, which appear to act primarily through its anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory mechanisms.

Research suggests that curcumin can help in the management of oxidative and inflammatory conditions, metabolic syndrome, arthritis and anxiety. It may also help in the management of exercise-induced inflammation and muscle soreness, thus enhancing recovery and subsequent performance in active people.

Pals Curcumin Curcugen® begins its novel development with the turmeric oleoresin, a base ingredient with a more comprehensive profile of turmeric bio actives than the industry- standard starting material, 95% Curcuminoids. The oleoresin is the native matrix where turmeric’s Curcuminoids, essential oils and resins are found.

Pals Curcumin Curcugen® oleoresin is optimized by the SELFD™ platform technology.
In this unique format, the food-state ratio of Curcuminoids is maintained, its beneficial essential oils are retained, and otherwise discarded resins are made functional, by giving priority to those that are naturally more polar.

The ‘functional’ resins in Pals Curcumin Curcugen® add significant value to the ingredient, avoiding the common practice of adding non-turmeric bio-enhancers or nanotechnology. This innovative brand enhances free curcumin’s bioavailability by 39-times, delivers a self-dispersion profile for easy and versatile delivery options and provides a sustained release mechanism for efficient dosing.

FAQ on our flagship
product Curcumin

What is Pals Curcumin?

Pals Curcumin is formulated with the latest branded and clinically researched curcumin ingredient “Curcugen®”, which is a 98.5% turmeric-based formulation, boasting a 39 X enhanced bioavailability over 95% curcuminoids

How is Pals Curcumin with Curcugen® different?

Pals Curcumin with Curcugen® provides the best of both worlds in terms of formulation. Pals Curcumin utilizes the whole-turmeric root, as in traditional preparations, but also delivers a concentrated amount of curcuminoids to reduce the bulkiness or high dose requirements of 95% Curcuminoids form with Curcugen®. As a whole-turmeric root formulation, Pals Curcumin not only delivers 50% curcuminoids, but other native turmeric compounds, including turmeric volatile oils, turmeric polar-resins, turmeric polysaccharides, among many others.

Pals Curcumin is able to prove its whole-turmeric root base through its mirroring of the natural, food-state ratio of Curcumin: DMC : BDMC. Where BDMC would normally take the shortfall of the process of hyper-concentrating curcuminoids, Pals Curcumin process does not disturb this delicate ratio, delivering 2-7X more BDMC by weight than any of its competitors.

What makes Pals Curcumin bioavailable?

Pals curcumin bioavailability is intelligently generated from within the turmeric rhizome itself. Pals Curcumin does not require any non-turmeric bioenhancers, but instead has ingeniously repurposed an otherwise discarded part of the 95%-curcuminoids extract, known as polar-resins. Polar-resins have been shown to increase the dispersion i.e. surface area of curcuminoids contained within Curcugen. These curcuminoids would otherwise cluster and impede their own absorption, but due to presence of polar-resins, spread out and are absorbed at 39 X the amount.

Is Pals Curcumin (Curcugen®) clinically studied?

Yes – Curcugen has been clinically-studied at a minimum dose of 500 mg, per day. Many formulations rely on supportive research or traditional recipes to associate clinical value to their product, but they have not studied their formulation directly. Curcugen is supported by hard-science that proves its absorption, health benefits and safety.

Is Pals Curcumin (Curcugen®) safe to use?

Yes – Curcugen® has been subjected to a battery of safety testing, as would be required of foods entering the market. Curcugen safety testing has gone well above what is required of most other turmeric/curcuminoid extracts to ensure confidence and consistency in the product.

Common Questions About Curcumin Bio-52x

What is turmeric?

Turmeric is a rhizome, or horizontally growing root, native to India, China, and other Southeast Asian countries. It is a staple culinary ingredient with medicinal use dating back 5,000 years, according to ancient Ayurvedic texts.

What are curcuminoids?

Curcuminoids are a group of structurally-similar diarylheptanoids, or plant phenols which are the source of the rhizomes characteristically yellow pigment and the bulk of its bioactivity. Curcumin, demethoxycurcumin (DMC) and bisdemethoxycurcumin (BDMC) are analogues, differing one from the other by the sequential lack of one or two methoxy-groups. Curcuminoids, in general are lipid soluble compounds that do not absorb well.

What quantity of curcuminoids are naturally found in turmeric?

Since turmeric is traditionally consumed as a powder, curcuminoids naturally represent between 2-7% of the weight of the root powder. This can vary by region and season, with some cultivars - namely the Aleppy turmeric producing consistently high curcuminoids content of 7% or more.

Do the curcuminoids in turmeric powder exist in equal proportions?

No. In nature they exist in a ratio of approximately 65:20:15; that is 65% curcumin, 20% DMC and 15% BDMC. We don’t know why this is exactly, but we do know that DMC and BDMC are naturally more stable and soluble than curcumin, while curcumin is more reactive or unstable than DMC and BDMC. We know curcumin’s reactivity is key to its medicinal benefit, but we also know that curcumin is better able to distribute its value in the presence of its cousin-molecules, DMC and BDMC.

What is the difference between turmeric powder and turmeric extract?

Turmeric powder is the traditionally consumed form of the root. Turmeric roots are picked, boiled, generally subjected to a baking-soda type of solution, then dried and ground. This process produces a powder with a 3% curcuminoid content on average and includes other turmeric-native compounds, including oils and fats, fibers, resinous compounds, polysaccharides, etc.

A turmeric extract, is also generally found as a powder, but its process includes a solvent step, wherein ethanol, ethyl acetate or acetone (solvents) are added to concentrate the curcuminoids content and minimize the content of the other native compounds.

Are all turmeric extracts created the same?

No, but most turmeric extracts that can be found in the market concentrate the curcuminoids to 95%. These are also known as C-95 extracts, or curcuminoid-95% extracts. These extracts are so highly concentrated in curcuminoids that they are devoid of other native compounds, some of which have shown both medicinal and bioavailability-enhancing benefits.

Additionally, it has been shown that as curcuminoids concentration increases, the ratio 65:20:15 between curcuminoid cousin molecules, curcumin, DMC and BDMC becomes skewed. Curcumin is more favored in the final formulation, over BDMC – which can be decreased to as low as 3%.

Is 95% turmeric extract stronger than turmeric root powder?

Curcuminoids 95% is not necessarily more powerful than turmeric root powder, but it is more concentrated. As a matter of concentration, it would essentially take more than 30X more turmeric root powder to get the same amount of curcuminoids in a 95% curcuminoid extract.

Why do curcuminoids have such low bioavailability?

There are three major reasons for curcuminoids’ low bioavailability. (1.) They don’t absorb well because of their lipid-based structure. (2.) They undergo rapid biotransformation, often to more soluble, albeit lesser potent molecules. (3.) They are highly excreted.

Curcuminoids, and curcumin in particular are lipid based molecules that have trouble dispersing in the watery-mediums of digestive juices and blood. As a result, curcuminoids clump together and less of them are able to interact with the absorptive surfaces in the GI tract to absorb, or reach the bloodstream to confer therapeutic benefit.

Curcuminoids are also rapidly transformed in the body into more soluble formats. Phase 1 and 2 metabolism of curcuminoids can yield derivative compounds, such as tetrahydrocurcumin (THC) and curcumin-conjugates, respectively. Unabsorbed curcuminoids, headed toward excretion, can also be converted by native gut-bacteria derived NADPH-oxidases to tetrahydrocurcumin (THC).

Metabolites of curcumin range from being inactive (curcumin-conjugates) to more active in some regards than the curcumin parent (THC and antioxidant capacity) or less active in other regards (THC and anti-inflammatory activity)

If curcuminoids are poorly absorbed, how were their benefits known for centuries?

Traditional preparations of turmeric, culinary and medicinal alike, have always used the whole turmeric root powder. Recent research has determined that whole turmeric root powder is better absorbed than 95% curcuminoids. However, considering the low concentration and low bioavailability of curcuminoid actives within the root powder, specific formulations or recipes were generated to get the most out of the yellow spice.

Complementary ingredients in a recipe could include black pepper, ginger, cinnamon, cardamom, dairy, coconut milk or some other oil base. We now know these add-on ingredients to be bioenhancers, which by various mechanisms improve the absorption of curcuminoids from turmeric when used together. These are often used today to enhance the bioavailability of 95% curcuminoids, given that it is devoid of neighboring turmeric-native ingredients, in its nearly purified form.

Is there clinical proof that ancient recipes improve curcuminoid absorption?

Only one popular ingredient from these traditional formulations has ever been clinically studied for its absorption-enhancing effects, which is the extract of black pepper (or, piperine). Notably, piperine has never been studied with whole turmeric root powder, as is consumed traditionally, but instead with 95% Curcuminoids.

When used in combination with 95% curcuminoids, the absorption enhancing benefit is as low as 2X and as high as 20X. The difference in effect being dose related, whereas 5 mg of piperine added to 2g of 95% curcuminoids enhanced its blood circulation by 2X and 20 mg of piperine added to 2g of 95% curcuminoids enhanced its blood circulation by 20X, or 2000%.

How can I know the true bioavailability of my turmeric supplement?

Firstly, it’s important to know that the gold standard for assessing the bioavailability is to compare it to a known product that has low bioavailability. In this case, the reference comparison of a curcuminoid/turmeric formulation is always 95% curcuminoids, since its absorption is known to be low.

Next, it is important to ensure that your formula is measuring for Free Curcumin bioavailability, as this is the curcuminoid in abundance and the most difficult to absorb of the 3 cousin curcuminoid molecules. Furthermore, it is the curcumin most associated with therapeutic benefit. Free Curcumin means that you are showing what is absorbed and measured in the bloodstream in the format available to your cells, without any additional requirements from the body. This is in comparison to Total Curcumin, which measures the absorption of curcuminoids from your formulation, if your body had to work to format it for use. Total Curcumin involves the curcumin-conjugates, which we have already discussed as being inactive.
